A Day With The Berbers

Discover real Berber village life far away from the commercialisation seen in other High Atlas valleys such as Ourika and Imlil. Enjoy an authentic Atlas Mountain experience in a truly spectacular setting. In the Azzaden Valley we follow a trail through orchards to Tassa Ouirgane village passing walnut and almond trees, olive groves and numerous fruit trees including apple, peach, plum, apricots, quince, lemon and fig.

In the village we walk to the river then visit the local mill for a demonstration of how to make Berber bread. We’ll also learn about day to day village life. Lunch is served at Kasbah Africa, a stunning nature retreat built on the slopes of the Azzaden Valley on the bend of a river. At the Kasbah there is a pool with a wonderful view and plenty of areas to laze and enjoy peace and tranquillity. If you are still feeling active there is the option of a short walk to Torort village before we return to Marrakech.

ITINERARY

0830   Rendezvous with driver. Depart Marrakech, drive via Tahanoute and Asni

1000   Arrive Kasbah Africa in Azzaden Valley; Berber welcome with dates & milk

1030   Guided walk to Tassa Ouirgane village through orchards and along river

1200   Visit the local mill and bake bread Berber-style; tea-making ceremony

1245   Walk back to Kasbah Africa along the river (if water levels are low) or trail

1330   Lunch at Kasbah Africa; time to relax, swim, sunbathe, bird spot, snooze...

1630   Optional walk to Torort Berber village, meet vehicle and drive to Marrakech

1830   Arrive Marrakech

A stop to visit a local market will be made on market days - Tuesday (in Tahanoute), Thursday (in Ouirgane) and Saturday (in Asni).
